Screen Printing. The process & specs for printing custom labels

The principle explained
There are different screen print machines for the specific materials and their use. In terms of printing fabric labels we have certain specifications to follow. However the principle of screen printing is similar in general!
And the essential steps are:
1. Create a photo stencil of the required design
2. A screen is made of a piece of mesh stretched over a frame. A stencil is formed by blocking off parts of the screen in the negative image of the design to be printed; that is, the open spaces are where the ink will appear on the substrate.
3. The screen is placed atop a substrate. Ink is placed on top of the screen, and a floodbar is used to push the ink through the holes in the mesh.
4. When printing textile labels, for every imprint the band is moving forward, the printed areas go through a heater and then roll up in a finish product.

Principle of screen printing

Screen Print for Fabric Labels
In our practice we use screen printing when we want to achieve vivid and clear outlined colors. It is mostly applied for dark base fabrics where the whites pop up and the other colors appear more dense.
We also use this type of print for inks with special effects such as gold and silver glitter where we sometimes use combined printing and print part of the graphic on Flexo and the special effect on the Screen print machine.
We recommend to be used up to 3 colors, that are not overlapped or stroked as the fitting on color in color is not 100% guaranteed. This is because the fabric is stretchy material and it has some degree of slipping away. The same applies for the reverse labelling we do not recommend it with screen print method.

Raw Materials
The materials we use on screen print machines to print fabric labels are:
Polyester Satin - Oeko-tex® 100 Class 2
Woven edge Polyester Satin double face - Oeko-tex® 100 Class 2
Polyester Satin double face
Polyester Taffeta - Oeko-tex® 100 Class 2
Cotton Herringbone Black

Special Effects
For the special effects we use special glitters which we mix with transparent emulsion and use a mesh with lower resolution. It is advised the elements on which the effect is applied to be larger in order to bring up the maximum of the effect. we have variety of colors and effects we can offer with a one month pre-order time. About the process

For the printing process the machine operator needs to prepare the mesh frame depending on the resolution, fit the fabric rolls, mix the colors and then to start the machine. It is important to fit the graphic within the size as assigned. During the process he needs to replenish the ink if necessary and watch out for unexpected imprints and correct them.
